Tipperary TD Michael Lowry says that Paramedics are beyond disillusioned with the conditions they work under.
He cited the current working conditions and pay levels as factors that make it an unattractive career in Ireland at present.
An unpublished HSE Work Force report has revealed that the at present recruitment efforts are being surpassed by service demands.
Following a recent recruitment campaign to hire 32 new staff – 130 staff made it through the interview stage and were offered jobs – only 7 people accepted the positions according to Deputy Lowry.
Deputy Lowry is repeating his call for an Independent Review of the Ambulance Services as he believes the current staff are burnt out from travelling long distances to provide cover and having delays at Emergency Departments due to overcrowding meaning breaks times were unavailable.
