Heritage Week Begins Nationwide Today

Heritage week begins today with a huge range of events across the county and nation.

Full details can be found on here.

In county Tipperary there are events in most towns – many are in person but a number of digital projects are also being delivered this year.

The overarching theme for National Heritage Week 2022 is sustainability and organisers were asked to consider sustainable heritage in all its forms.

Organisers were also invited to explore biodiversity through events and / or projects.

Tipperary town will host two full day workshops – one on Saturday August 13 and the second on August 20th in respect of buildings and the sustainable future of our communities.

A specially commissioned film will be premièred in the Excel Arts & Cultural Centre on Thursday August 18th that remembers the glove industry in Tipperary town ( 1900’s – 1970s) – like most Heritage Week events the film is free of charge but booking is advised due to limited seats.

It is likely the film will have a repeat showing.

The film is accompanied by an exhibition of memorabilia and artefacts from the former Glove Factory on James Street.

A special mass in memory of all former Glove Factory employees will be celebrated at St Michael’s Church on Thursday morning August 18th.
