The Funeral takes place today of our friend and colleague Donnchadh Ó Cinnéide.
Earlier today Labhrás Ó Murchú, Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, paid tribute to Donnchadh.
The summer show at Brú Ború tonight is cancelled as a mark of respect as was last night’s show.
He recalled their shared childhood in Cashel and how Donnchadh was central to cultural events in the community.
Mr Ó Murchú said Donnchadh was a household name in Comhaltas across the country as was evident by the attendance at last night’s lying in repose.
He said a huge vacuum will be left in Brú Ború, in Comhaltas and the wider community by his death.
He recalled that Donnchadh was beaming with happiness in May when Fleadh Cheoil Thiobraid Árann returned after the pandemic and was a huge success in his native Cashel.
Donnchadh Ó Cinnéide‘s exceptional contribution to Irish Culture and scholarship was recognised earlier this year when he was presented with Gradam na hÉigse Labhrás Ó Murchú said that his death will be keenly felt by radio listeners, those that attended set dancing classes led by Donnchadh, members of Comhaltas, those that regularly attended events at Brú Ború and a wide circle of friends.
He said Donnchadh had a gift to be able to make everyone feel important.
