Lowry Calls For Action On Student Accommodation Crisis

Deputy Michael Lowry

An Independent TD feels the current student accommodation crisis is spiralling out of control ahead of the academic year.

Michael Lowry says third level students are unable to get accommodation and is calling on the government to provide purpose built facilities for students solely as a priority.

Deputy Lowry believes the delays for Leaving Cert students getting their result, high rent costs, and a lack of supply due to the increase of refugees from Ukraine was adding to the issue.

The Thurles based deputy says it’s disgrace that accommodation ringfences for students is now not available adding that students were the future of the country and are entitled to an education.

Mr Lowry is fully supportive of the Students Union of Ireland call for laws to protect students who need access to accommodation to pursue their education.
