Council To Host 4 Electrical Waste Item Collections Points

Tipperary County Council is to host 4 collection points for electrical waste items.

The events will be held over 4 consecutive Saturdays with the first collection day to be held at Cahir Mart on August 20th.

The free service is delivered in collaboration with WEEE Ireland and will enable the safe disposal of items such as household waste electrical items, batteries and energy saving lightbulbs will also be accepted.

Items of all sizes are accepted including fridges, microwaves, washing machines, lawnmowers, power tools, laptops, hairdryers, toys and phones.

Essentially, WEEE Ireland will recycle anything with a plug or battery. Each of the four events will run for the period of 6 hours between 10am and 4pm.

The venues are Cahir Mart on August 20th, Fairgreen car park in Carrick on Suir on August 27th, Templemore Mart on September 3rd and finally in Thurles, at the Thurles Recycling Centre, located in Cabragh Business Park(former Sugar Factory site) on September 10th.

WEEE Ireland is one of the best performing recycling schemes in Europe, with a record 18.7 million waste electrical items collected in 2021.

The service is designed to support the circular economy to ensure materials are not wasted, to reduce emissions and to reduce illegal dumping.

WEEE Ireland accounts for over two thirds of all national waste electrical and electronics collection activity on behalf of 1,296 producer members.
