Farmers are invited to attend an event near Fethard tomorrow evening to learn about the practice of contract rearing.
The event is led by the South Tipperary Young Farmers group and will be held on David Guiry’s Farm.
Contract rearing involves the movement of replacement heifers from the owner’s farm for rearing on contract by another farmer.
The practice allows dairy farmers to focus on milk production and managing the dairy herd and also presents an opportunity to the farmer rearing the animals to earn extra income.
Speakers from Teagasc, IFA, Glanbia and the Veterinary sector will examine the issue from a variety of perspectives. The event will take place at 7pm. The farm can be located using the eircode E91XW71.
