A new social housing estate has been officially opened in Tipperary Town. Aherlow Meadows consists of 28 new houses built on a site that was originally intended to be a 22 house estate consisting of self builds.
Tipperary County Council signed the contract with Townmore for the €5.7 million development at Knockanrawley in early 2020 and despite Covid restrictions the houses were ready for occupation in 2021.
This project consists of 2x 4-bedroom houses, 10x 3-bedroom houses, 10x 2-bedroom houses (all two-storey) and 6x 2-bedroom, single-storey houses.
The estate was designed by Council Architect Liam Ryan and the opening was performed by Cathaoirleach Cllr Mary Hanna Hourigan on Saturday.
Due to prevailing weather conditions a planned BBQ is deferred until later in the Summer.
The opening ceremony involved the unveiling of the Estate naming stone and was the Cathaoirleach’s last official duty as the Tipp Cahir Cashel AGM is to be held today and Cllr Micheal Anglim is expected to be elected to the position of Cathaoirleach for the coming year.
