Social Justice Ireland Urges Government Not To Harm Low-Income Households

Social Justice Ireland says the Government should ensure they do no harm to low-income households in Budget 2023.

CEO Dr Seán Healy says there is a real danger that the cost of living crisis will be combined with extensive inflation and, possibly, recession so if Government gets its choices wrong.

The organisation  believes an increase in core social welfare rates by €20 a week is needed, replace the minimum wage with a living wage rate of €12.90 an hour and further address the working poor issue by making tax credits refundable.

They also want the government to commit to borrowing additional resources and use these to invest in long-term infrastructure projects focused on social housing provision and measures to accelerate Ireland achieving our committed climate change targets.
