Today sees the progression of 102 Gardaí newly attested from the Garda College in Templemore. Monsieur for Justice Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris attended the event.
There were 38 females amongst the 102 graduates. 16 of the new Gardai were born outside the state – in countries such as New Zealand, Lithuania, Angola, Croatia, Poland, England, Northern Ireland, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, Scotland reflecting an increasing effort to recruit a more diverse police force.
The Garda force now stands at 14,396, there are 401 Garda reserves across the nation and a further 3,345 civilian staff support An Garda Siochana.
There are 81 recruit Gardaí currently in training – a recent campaign to attract 800 new recruits for training received over 11,000 applications.
12 of the new Garda have been allocated to the Southern Region which includes Tipperary
