Co. Tipp Farmer Loses 27 Sheep In Single Dog Attack

A local sheep farmer has lost 27 sheep following an attack by a single dog.

The farmer says he found the sheep dead on Commage near Newcastle earlier this week after a neighbour alerted him.

TMWR understands that the dog involved was since shot by a neighbour as it was still near the sheep and exhausted from the attacks.

Yesterday the final tally of 27 sheep killed was reached when more dead sheep were found in nearby dikes and rivers.

The farmer has previously suffered the loss of 34 sheep in 2018 and says there needs to be enforcement of the laws around microchipping dogs and prosecutions taken against dog owner when their dogs attack livestock.

It now remains to be seen if any compensation will be forthcoming or legal prosecutions commenced.
