Blood Donors in county Tipperary are being urged to respond if contacted by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.

At present there is only a 4.5 day buffer stock of blood supplies on hand – ideally the IBTS seeks to maintain a 7 day buffer stock.

Due to the bank holiday next week there will not be any donations received on Monday.

At present the service is issuing between 2400 and 2800 units to the hospital service weekly.

The IBTS now informs donors when their donation has been used – letting donors know their effort has helped to save or improve someone’s life.

The clinics in Tipperary town next week will operate from 4.45pm until 8pm on May 3rd, 4th and 5th.

New donors are asked to visit giveblood.ie to register an interest in donating.

A short health and lifestyle questionnaire must be completed to check if a person is eligible to donate.

Those who are recovering from COVID are eligible to donate seven days after their confirmation of Covid -19 but anyone feeling unwell is discouraged from attending clinics.
