The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence is visiting the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, today.

Simon Coveney is due to meet with representatives of the Ukrainian Government and view first-hand the damage caused by Russian attacks.

The visit is the first by any foreign minister on the United Nations Security Council since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began.

He travelled overnight by secure military transport and is accompanied by Therese Healy Ireland’s ambassador to Ukraine.

The visit will focus on how Ireland can help with aid, support the Ukraine application for EU membership and identify any further sanctions possible on Russia.
