Works Complete on Lisvernane Bridge

Works have concluded on the Lisvernane Bridge in the Glen of Aherlow, to make the crossing point safe for all vehicles and users.

Recently, walls at both sides of the bridge had been damaged and deteriorated to such an extent that drivers had no protection from a 25 foot drop should they leave the roadway.

Five families on the cul de sac after the bridge faced being cut off from the outside world and one farmer had to make arrangements to bring his milk across the bridge in portions as the Co-op vehicle could not cross the bridge.

Councillor John Crosse paid tribute to the council staff involved for their actions and said that funding of €75,000 has been secured under the Bridge Rehabilitation Scheme for a more substantial bridge widening and repair project.

This project is to be completed by the end of September this year.

Cllr Crosse appealed for a meeting of minds as land needs to be secured from a local landowner for the bridge enhancement works to be completed.
