The INMO has again repeated its concerns about overcrowding in hospitals around the country.

The Union is especially concerned about overcrrowding levels in Cork hospitals this Tuesday afternoon, with 76 patients without a bed across the two Cork city hospitals.

In Cork University Hospital there are 53 patients are awaiting a bed, while 23 are on trolleys in the Mercy University Hospital.

Expressing concerns for staff, the union says that current levels of overcrowding are unsustainable.

The INMO wants both the Government and the South/SouthWest Hospital Group to tackle the issue of capacity and discharge facilities for complex discharges as admission rates remain significantly higher than discharge rates.

The union is also repeating its call for public health measures to be reinforced in respect of covid.

Closer to home, there are 14 patients on trolleys in Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel.

University Hospital Limerick has 47 patients without a bed in the emergency department with a further 42 accommodated elsewhere in the hospital.

All hospitals in the Mid-West region have cancelled many of their elective services this week in a bid to respond to the overcrowding issues, covid positive patients in the hospitals and staff absences due to covid infection.
