The impact of the latest Covid variant can be lessened by vaccination and the wearing of masks.
That’s according to Professor of Biochemistry at Trinity College Dublin, Luke O’Neill.
A total of 23,702 cases were reported yesterday based on a combination of self-reported antigen testing and PCR tests.
The new BA2 variant of covid-19, known as Deltacron, is much more infectious and is spreading more widely, according to Prof. O’Neill.
Prof. O’Neill says the virus attaches to the lungs more easily and also has a shorter incubation period.
The professor encouraged people to avail of a vaccine and wear a mask as much as possible.
This would lead to a decrease in the spread of of the virus, which would support the health service, in addition to protecting one’s health.
