As part of An Garda Siochana’s Centenary Celebrations, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at Friarsfield, outside Tipperary Town.
The event, which will take place on Monday, March 21st, is to commemorate the shooting of Garda Superintendent John David (Sean) Curtin on 21st March, 1931.
Superintendent Curtin was a native of Newmarket, Co. Cork but was transferred to Tipperary after he married.
On March 21st, as he was returning from late night inspections, Superintendent Curtin was ambushed and shot dead by the IRA at Friarsfield, Tipperary Town.
He is the highest ranking Garda officer ever to be shot by IRA in the history of An Garda Siochana.
The wreath laying ceremony will commence at 12 noon on Monday and all are welcome to attend.
