The consultant team working on a transport solution to connect Limerick and Cork cities says they will reveal their plan on March 30th.
The project may include a number of by passes, and road upgrades and perhaps not a full new motorway although a preferred route option will be included.
Land owners to be impacted will then be consulted.
The project will then go to detailed design stage and a business case will be prepared for government before planning is sought from An Bord Pleanála.
The project has faced some objections with community groups in some areas calling for the road to Limerick to Cahir to be upgraded instead and that those seeking a route to Cork would use the existing M8 – thus saving on construction costs and land use.
A number of road-based and rail-based options have been shortlisted to improve the connection between the two cities.
