A Co. Tipperary school is one of six schools from around the country to be selected for the National Gallery’s ‘Your Gallery at School’ programme.

St. Colmcille’s Primary School in Templemore have been chosen to take part in this year’s programme.

The ‘Your Gallery at School’ programme aims to connect children with art in a way they may not have had the chance to before by bringing art to classrooms around the country, backed by funding from aircraft leasing firm SMBC Aviation Capital.

The gallery will now pair each of the six schools with lead artists to plan a package of workshops appropriate to students’ age and level, aiming to promote the importance of art education, creativity and innovation.

Sean Rainbird, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland said: “We’re thrilled that Your Gallery at School will return this year. Without the renewed support of SMBC Aviation Capital, this wonderful project would not be possible.

“Our hope is that this opportunity to learn through art will encourage creativity and curiosity amongst our participants in the future.”

Other schools to be selected are:

  • Scoil Náisiúnta Leitir Mealláin, (Co. Galway),
  • Mount Sion CBS Secondary School, (Waterford City),
  • St. Brigid’s & St Patrick’s National School, Drogheda (Co. Louth),
  • Enniscorthy Community College, (Co. Wexford),
  • St Paul’s Special School, (Cork).

Round 2 applications will be accepted from August 29th to September 15th and more information can be found on the National Gallery website.
