The Department of Rural and Community Development is to launch a new fund to enable community centres to be upgraded.

The Community Centre Investment Fund is one of several government projects designed to support Rural Ireland.

15 million euros is now allocated towards the upgrade and refurbishment of Community centres across Ireland.

Under the Fund groups and organisations based in both rural and urban communities can apply for grants ranging from €10,000 to €300,000.

Full details of the scheme will be released shortly and the closing date for applications will be at the end of May.

Overall a package of €150 million is available in 2022 for rural towns, villages and communities.

The focus is on providing investment that will revitalise town centres, combat dereliction, promote remote working and enhance communities by providing outdoor recreation amenities.
