Tipperary’s Government TD, Jackie Cahill is welcoming the decision by Minister for Education Norma Foley to expand the Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools programme, also known as the DEIS programme.
This major expansion of the DEIS scheme will see an additional €32 million of investment annually.
County Tipperary will see 22 primary schools and three secondary schools receiving DEIS status.
The plan focuses on addressing the educational needs of children and young people from disadvantaged communities, from pre-school through to second level education (3-18 years).
All five primary schools in Tipperary Town have been included in the DEIS programme – these are the Gaelscoil, St. Michael’s Girls and Boys on St. Michael’s Street, The Monastry and St. Joseph’s Primary School on Murgasty Road.
Also included in the expanded DEIS scheme are St. Francis National School in Donohill, Bansha NS and St. John the Baptist School in Cashel.
The post-primary schools in Tipperary that will be included are the Presentation Secondary School in Ballingarry, Scoil Mhuire, Greenhill, Carrick-on Suir and Coláiste Phobal Roscrea.
