Due to issues with her health, Vicky Phelan has said she is now unable to climb Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo for the ‘Climb with Charlie’ event.
The walk is designed to raise money for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.
Veteran broadcaster Charlie Bird had organised the walk after being diagnosed with MND last year, when issues with his voice prompted him to get checked.
Ms Phelan is terminally ill with cancer and has recently undergone treatment to alleviate pain in her back.
Writing on her social media platforms, Ms Phelan said she had spent the past two weeks recovering from her treatment in the Milford Care Centre in Limerick.
Her radiotherapy treatment had made her very sick and unable to walk without assistance, which has forced her to pull out of the walk in April.
Ms Phelan hopes that her ability to walk unassisted will return, but also acknowledges that it may not.
Numerous nationwide walks have been organised to coincide with the ‘Climb with Charlie’ event on April 2nd.
Ms Phelan said that she will focus on family time and thanks everyone for their support and good wishes.
