FF John Hanafin Resigns As Honorary Consul to the Russian Federation

Former 2 term Fianna Fáil Senator John Hanafin, a native of Thurles, has resigned his position as Honorary Consul to the Russian Federation.

Mr Hanafin has held the position since 2015 to aid Russian people living in Ireland or to help Russian visitors to the country.

The Consul operated from Teach an Chuinne on Parnell street in Thurles. Mr Hanafin has resigned the role due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has now called for an immediate end to the conflict.

Mr Hanafin is the brother of the former cabinet minister Mary Hanafin and the son of the former Senator, Des Hanafin.

At present Mr Hanafin also serves as General Secretary of the Rural Independent TD grouping led by Independent Tipperary Td Mattie McGrath.
