Gardai are urging motorists to slow down on the roads.
The National Slow Down Day 24 hour operation which is supported by RSA Ireland and other stakeholders will begin at 7am this morning.
The aim of this road safety initiative is to increase the awareness of the dangerous of excessive and inappropriate speeding.
