Repairs have been completed to the burst water main in the Dundrum water treatment plant.
This plant supplies raw water for treatment to the plant and raw water will soon start to be sent through the treatment process.
However, as the plant was fully shut down, it will take a number of hours to have the plant back working at full capacity.
Some areas affected will not see water restored until tonight (Wednesday) and some areas may experience low water pressure for 24 to 36 hours.
Tankered water is now in place at the three main primary schools in Clonoulty, Rossmore and Boherlahan.
Customers are reminded to use their own container when taking water from the tanker and to boil the water before use.
Areas impacted by today’s outage stretch from Rossmore, through Gaile to Longfield.
Customers can expect to see supply returning throughout the evening.
The Irish Water customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
