Irish Guide Dogs Need Puppy Raisers

736

Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind need Puppy Raisers across  Munster but puppy raisers must also be no more than 2 hours from the IGD’s Headquarters and Training centre on Model Farm Road, in Cork City.

Those taking on the role will foster a puppy from age 8 weeks until approximately 12-14 months. Such puppies will eventually become a Guide Dog for a person who is vision impaired or an Assistance Dog for a family of a child with autism. Puppy raisers work under the direction of Puppy Raising Supervisors and will teach their puppies the basic rules of obedience.

At approximately 14 months the puppies then move into the Training Centre and work towards graduating as a Guide or Assistance Dog.  Certain rules apply to qualify as a “puppy raiser” such as not having more than 2 other dogs and having the capacity to use the internet for zoom sessions.
