Sinn Fein TD for Tipperary Martin Browne has welcomed the rollout of choice based letting by Tipperary County Council.
Under the system of choice based letting, anyone on the council housing list who is approved for a two bed house will be given the opportunity to express their interest in two bed houses that come up in their areas of preference.
As it stands, the current system means that when a person is offered a house they can either accept or decline the offer.
Since its introduction in Cork in 2015, choice based letting has led to a 20% drop in refusal rates and has also reduced the number of council houses left vacant.
Deputy Browne has recalled how his party and Tipperary Sinn Fein councillors have been calling for this model of social housing allocation policy to be implemented in Tipperary since 2014.
