A recruitment campaign to hire an additional 800 Garda in 2022 begins today.
Applications via the Public Appointments service can be made from today until 3pm on 16th March.
The police force which celebrates it’s centenary today has 14,539 members at present.
The recruitment campaign is being supported by an advertising slogan – The Difference is You and seeks to encourage applications from those who may not have previously considered training to become a Garda to deliver a more diverse and representative police force.
Proficiency will only be required in one language – which can be English or Irish.
Since 1964 Garda recruits receive their initial training in Templemore, County Tipperary at the Garda college.
B.A. in Applied Policing is the Foundation Programme for Garda Trainees delivered over 104 weeks. The initial period of 34 weeks takes place in Templemore with subsequent training taking place predominantly in selected Garda Divisions, however the pandemic saw the introduction of expanded online delivery of education programmes for trainee Gardaí.
