The government is looking at having a one off double bank holiday for this St Patrick’s Day and a new bank holiday for St Brigid’s Day next year.
That’s according to Tanaiste Leo Varadkar who says the bank holiday in 2023 would be made permeant.
The Fine Gael leader says the day would mark the impact of the pandemic and highlight the role frontline workers made.
Ireland has one of the lowest bank holidays in Europe with just nine in the year.
