Rising Covid-19 Cases but No New Restrictions on the Cards, says Minster

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has said that despite the rising numbers of Covid-19 cases, the Government are not considering reimposing stricter lockdown conditions.

Speaking on RTE’s Prime Time last night, Minister Donnelly said that the Government were not considering a return to harsh public health measures.

“Cases have been rising very significantly in nearly all age groups.

“In terms of where we thought we would be, we are in between the pessimistic and optimistic,” the Minister said.

He also said that it was hoped that the current public health strategy would make an impact on the case numbers.

It comes as 3,726 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed yesterday, the highest daily number since early January.

Increased social contacts are proving a concern for both the public health officials and the Government alike, with worries over how many hospitality businesses are rigidly checking covid passes.

However, despite no re-imposition of restrictions, it is likely that any additional measures would focus on rowing back on some of the freedoms that were announced on October 22nd.
