There is more cause for Tipperary Pride today as the GAA have announced that West Tipperary man, Fergal Horgan, will referee this year’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final on Sunday, 22nd August, as Tipperary’s neighbours Limerick & Cork battle it out, in what is sure to be an epic struggle between two mighty teams.
Fergal Horgan, from Knockavilla-Kickhams GAA Club, has a long history in Garlic Games, having won an All-Ireland Minor Hurling medal in Goals for Tipperary in the 1996 final.
This year’s Senior Hurling Final will be Horgan’s third time refereeing at the highest level, and ensures that he will join the ranks of the elite group of referees who have taken their skills to the very top of the GAA echelons, along side such well-known West Tipperary men, such as George Ryan, Paddy Russell, John Moloney, Sean Hayes & Bill O’Donnell, all of whom refereed Senior Championship finals in Football or Hurling in their careers.
