Tipperary County Council have launched a Repair Directory and it is now available via public offices and Libraries.
Tipperary County Council wants to support and expand the existing repair economy in County Tipperary as this is a growing sector offering opportunities for local employment. The Environment Section, who put the directory together stated that “repairing and reusing products is not only good for the environment as it saves resources and prevents waste but it is also good for the local economy as jobs in the repair industry tend to be local.”
To further promote the activity of repairing and reusing the council have now launched a competition with 5 prizes totaling €1500 in prize funds. The challenge is to find something old and renovate it or turn it into something completely different but still usable. The council says it is very important that we reuse old materials as it helps to save energy, limits pollution, conserves natural resources, reduces dumping and also reduces greenhouse gases emissions.
To enter the completion people are asked to take a before and after photograph and to send in their entry by August 13th . The Up cycle Challenge is a joint effort by the Environmental Protection Agency and Environment and Climate Action, Tipperary County Council where the goal is to promote the idea that we all need to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
