Carphone Warehouse has announced that it to close all of its Irish outlets, with the loss of 486 jobs.
Dixons Carphone, who owns the company, made the announcement that all 69 of its standalone shops, and 12 retail outlets will close in Ireland.
The decision will not impact Currys PC World, which is also owned by the Dixons Carphone Group.
The company said that, over the last 12 months, Carphone Warehouse has seen a decrease in footfall by over 40%, with an increase of 25% in customers buying sim-free handsets. They also said that the marked increase in their online revenue was a factor in the decision.
The company added that they will “go well beyond its obligations in financial and other support for all affected colleagues”.
The move will see the closure of Carphone Warehouse stores in Tipperary Town & Clonmel, as well as their 5 stores in Limerick City.
