National “Slow Down Day” To Highlight Dangerous Road Speed

An Garda Siochana, in collaboration with the Road Safety Authority, are operating a 24 hour SLOW Down Day until 7am tomorrow morning. The objective is to encourage drivers to respect the prevailing speed limits, over 1322 speed check location will record driver behaviour today. In a first update the Gardai report that During the first 5  hours of National Slow Down Day, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe checked the speed of 51,373 vehicles and detected 392 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Notable speeds detected in Tipperary are:

70km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the N24 Bohercrow, Tipperary

77km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the N62, Clongower, Thurles, Tipperary
