Irish Water criticised for poor weekend response

A call has been made for Irish Water to appoint a County Council official or engineer to respond to issues with local water supplies at weekends.

The demand was made by TD Seamus Healy after a disruptive weekend in Clonmel when much of the supply to the town was lost. Continuing issues are being experienced.

The TD has criticised Irish Water for not engaging with the public when the issue arose, while he further accused the utility company of failing to act adequately to the loss of supply and of refusing ‘to deal with water outages at weekends’.

He has now suggested that Irish Water be forced to delegate responsibility to a designated County Council official or engineer, to deal with these issues at weekends.
