March4Tipp N24 Go-Slow deferred, for now.

The March4Tipp group has announced that pending the outcome of a meeting with the nominated chairperson of the Tipperary Town Task Force, they are deferring a planned traffic slow-down through the town.

It emerged last week that Alison Harvey, who has experience in town rejuvenation programmes elsewhere, was nominated as the independent chairperson of the task force.

While the March4Tipp group has to date, refused to engage with the Tipperary Town Centre Forum as they believe it is too county council-led, they have called off next Friday’s planned go-slow until after a meeting with the independent chairperson.

In a statement, March4Tipp said they want to come away from that meeting assured that the process she leads will have sufficient scope to address the issues of unemployment, social deprivation and a bypass of the town, in a manner that is target-driven.

The group has warned that if, following the meeting with Ms Harvey, they are not satisfied that the Task Force will cover these issues, they will continue and escalate their protest action, which is likely to include regular N24 disruption.
