Tipperary members of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents Ireland have written to local TDs as part of their campaign to put an end to plans to introduce a tobacco licence fee to retailers.
The government plans to impose the fee next year as part of its anti-tobacco campaign.
The organisation claims that retailers are being targeted by the government while criminals profit greatly from illicit tobacco trade.
They claim the move will damage their sector which they say implements the law and sell a legal product in a compliant manner.
