Michael Lowry Facing New Tax Charges

Co Tipperary TD Michael Lowry is now facing four charges of filing incorrect tax returns after three additional charges were laid against him today. 
 
Mr Lowry was not present at a sitting of Thurles District Court today but was represented by solicitor Michael Collins.
 
Of the three charges put to him today one alleges that he knowingly filed incorrect tax return on August 3rd 2007 The other two charges relate to alleged filing of incorrect tax returns on Oct 21st 2003
 
He was initially charged in December with filing an incorrect tax return on the same date Oct 21st 2003 

 
The case will be dealt with by way of trial on indictment and was put back to allow for completion of the book of evidence and will come up again on Feb 4th 
 
In a statement issued this afternoon Deputy Lowry confirmed that he intends to vigorously contest allegations made by Revenue 
He further goes on to say that his lawyers have advised he has “a full defence to the allegations and that auditors and accountants have advised that both his personal and company’s tax affairs were in order and compliant  He added that he engaged a leading group of tax consultants to carry out a review of his tax affairs for a second opinion and again he was told that neither he nor his company “has any financial liability on the matters pursued by Revenue through the courts”
