The Chairman of the public Account Committee has said that the committee needs to investigate what happened to public funds at the Tipperary Hostel Project
The project which saw €4 million of public funds put into it – and it was funded in large part by Fás was suspended in 2010 due to alleged financial irregularities.
It is also being reported that money earmarked for the hostel was spent on a number of other projects locally. These allegations also include suggestions that some of the monies were spent on private houses.
John McGuinness said in the course of a documentary which was due to be aired last night that the committee will have to look at the issue as tax payer’s money has been sunk into a building which nobody is now taking charge of.
