Workers need to be consulted with following the announcement that the Greenvale plant in Thurles is to close, with operations being transferred to Limerick.

That is the call being made by Independent TD Michael Lowry.

The decision relating to the Greenvale Animal Feeds Plant was announced at the AGM of Arrabawn Co-Op.

The facility is to close this August.  The Co-Op has said that there will be some opportunities for re-deployment as some new positions will be created in Limerick.

The decision is being made to cut overheads.

Responding, Deputy Lowry has called for the company to clarify with its workers the options available to them and to clarify their future prospects.

He added that travel and subsistence allowances should be made available for those who will be redeployed to Limerick.
