It has been announced today that 50 areas in rural Tipperary will be covered through the National Broadband Scheme.

South Tipperary Fine Gael TD, Tom Hayes, has said that some parts of Tipperary which are not covered through commercial broadband providers will be covered through the national broadband scheme.

This he said will enable homes and businesses to receive broadband services with speed of 30 megabytes per second.

Areas such as Ardfinnan, Cloneen, Emly, Burncourt and Golden will be covered under the scheme.

At present, the department of Communications is undergoing the technical, financial and legal preperations to roll out the service and plans to launch the procurement process in 2014.
