Muintir na Tire’s national co-ordinator for community alert, Liam Kelly, has drawn attention to a code system used by criminals to convey a property’s suitability for burglary.
The sign, which are often drawn in chalk outside a house has been monitored, and can indicate whether a house is suitable for burglary, whether the occupier of the house is vulnerable or if the property in question is worth breaking into.
Commenting on Tipperary Mid West Radio this morning, Mr Kelly has said that it is a system used by criminals in the UK, but similar signs have been found in parts of Ireland. However he said that none have been reported yet.
