Austerity measures damage economics

County Tipperary MEP Phil Prendergast (Lab.) has said that Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Ollie Rehn should be dismissed from his current position.

Deputy Prendergast has made the demand on the basis of her opinion of Mr. Rehn's track record.

She said he is causing more harm than good to EU citizens by underplaying the recessive effects of austerity measures and his insistance that when austerity measures fail to produce prosperity, further cuts should be made.

The Clonmel MEP maintains that the continued austerity measures advocated by Mr Rehn are continuing to damage the economics of member states and therefore, he should be dismissed by the European Commission Presidend Jose Manuel Barroso.
