Impact of HSE cuts in Mid West

Serious concerns about the impact that HSE cuts will have on patients and staff in the Mid West have been expressed by North Tipperary County Councillor John Carroll.

Cllr Carroll said that reductions of €24.5 million from the Mid West Budget for 2013 and and a proposal to take out a further 653 staff from the payroll, will put a significant burden on staff as they continue in their jobs.

He said that recently announced measures, coupled with early retirements and natural attrition from the HSE over the past two years will lead to, as he put it ” early burn out of staff” and will amount to unsafe outcomes in relation to the quality of patient care.

He has called on the government to stop the practice of cutting budgets and staffing numbers, and to respect the hard working staff within the health system who provide a safe quality of care for patients.
