Independent TD Michael Lowry has responded to an article in yesterday's Sunday Independent newspaper which outlines a phone call in which he is alleged as saying that he had not declared €250,000 sterling.
The conversation is said to have been recorded by land agent Kevin Phelan when the two were discussing business dealings.
In it Deputy Lowry appears to have claimed that he did not want a sum of €200,000 or €250,000 to be brought to light as he had not declared it to the Revenue Comissioners.
However, Mr Lowry has released a press statement in which he says his company, Garuda Limited made the payment concerned and that payment, he goes on to say, was properly recorded and accounted for and is fully tax-compliant.
