A jobs task force for South Tipperary has been called for in the wake of the announcement of 200 job losses at the Abbott plant in Clonmel.
The job losses are to be sought through a voluntary redundancy process and the company has set up a 30-day consultation period with employees.
Commenting this morning independant TD Seamus Healy said that the a jobs task force focussing on South Tipperary needs to be set up considering the number of jobs lost in the region in recent times.
Meanwhile, the Fine Gael TD Tom Hayes has said that he would not be opposed to such a task force being set up, but added that there is a possibility that it could emerge as nothing more than a "talking shop".
He said that while the suggestion is not out of the question the Minister for Trade has to take account of the jobs situation in the area.
