The closure of one hundred garda stations across the country Wii take the heart out of many rural communities and it is people who will ultimately suffer.
So said Willie Gleeson the president of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors. He was commenting on the budget announcement garda districts around the country will be consolidated which will result in the closure of 100 stations, five of which are in County Tipperary.
He said that at present An Garda Siochana is working with an inadequate garda fleet and that his members are seriously concerned about rural Ireland and the impact the consolidation process will have on communities.
He and his organisation are calling on the Garda commissioner and Garda management to instigate a communications exercise with communities who are going to be the most affected by station closures.
The five Garda stations to be closed in Tipperary are New Inn, Grangemockler, Terryglass, Rearcross, and Dundrum.
