Proposals made at a garda conference in Templemore this week to reform the policing model have been described as bordering on farcical by the Garda Representative Association.
During the week it was proposed that with the planned closure of 80 stations around the country, Garda clinics should be set up to maintain links with communities and to replace the smaller Garda stations.
Responding to the proposals today the GRA said that such plans could be false economy as the cost of renting locations for these clinics could far outweigh the cost of running a local station.
