Review of Garda district headquarters

A number of the Garda district headquarters in Co. Tipperary could soon face downgrade and cuts to garda numbers, according to Fianna Fail Cllr. Michael Smith.

A targeted review of district headquarters has recently been confirmed by the Justice Minister, Alan Shatter TD, alongside a review of small rural Garda stations.

Cllr. Smith believes that the review of district headquarters will lead to the downgrading of district headquarter Garda stations around the country

He notes that Tipperary has 6 district headquarters. These are based in Cahir, Clonmel, Nenagh, Templemore, Thurles and Tipperary Town.

He says there are fears that some of these will soon be stripped of their district headquarter status, resulting in a loss of Garda numbers and resources locally.

As a result he is urging Minister Shatter to reveal when this review will be complete and how exactly it will impact on our Garda numbers here in Tipperary.
